5 c. sifted flour
1/2 t. salt
1 t. baking soda
2 c. sugar
1 c. butter or shortening ( I use butter)
2 eggs
4 t. grated orange rind, optional
1 t. vanilla
2/3 c. sour cream
(or sour canned milk by adding 2 tbsp vinegar and let stand a few minutes)
Sift together flour, salt and soda. Cream sugar, shortening and eggs. Add flavoring. Beat. Add sour cream and flour. Blend well. Chill 1 hour. Roll out 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick. Cut forms and place on cookie sheets. Bake 12-15 minutes or until very slightly browned. Remove and cool on wire racks before decorating.
Bake 350-375' for 12-15 minutes
